Top Tips to Get Fit

tipstogetfitAre ya’ll ready to make the commitment to finally get the body you want? I know I am. I’m tired of letting lack of self-control and my busy life get in the way of my health. I want to get myself fit, but not to lose weight and get skinny. I want to get fit to be health inside and out. I want to not only look good on the outside, but feel good on the inside. I’m ready to feel energized and fulfilled instead of tired, bloated, and in pain. I am ready to treat my body like the holy temple God claims it to be.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”  – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

My Top Tips:

  • Make a goal. That should be the first step! This will help point you in the right direction. My goal is to feel better inside and to flatten my stomach.
  • Eat more wholesome food. Cut out processed foods, sugar, complex carbs, fried foods, and overall, junk. Filling your body with clean natural foods is the top way to feel your best.
  • Stay active. Find every excuse to keep yourself moving. Take walks, use the stairs, and ultimately, set aside at least 30 minutes a day to workout.
  • Portion control. One of the biggest culprits for obesity today is because of overeating due to huge portion sizes. The best way to eat is 3 medium size meals with 2 small snacks. A good guide to use to know how big your portion sizes should be is the size of your palm.
  • Never Skip Breakfast. A lot of people do not realize how important and crucial breakfast is to their health. It’s the first meal of the day which jumpstarts your metabolism. It also increases your risk of gaining weight and it puts your blood sugar out of balance due to fasting all night. An added benefit of eating breakfast is that it increases your energy.
  • Drink half your weight in ounces of water. So many people are dehydrated and do not even realize it. Lack of water is probably the reason why so many people are tired, cranky, have headaches, etc. Water can cure so many ailments. It helps to flush out toxins (especially adding lemon), aids in weight loss, and much more!
  • Get enough sleep. I do not feel good at all when I haven’t gotten enough sleep. Sleep is so important to our cognitive functioning and to our body. Try to aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night. Also, I recommend getting on a sleeping schedule. I always feel more alert and energized in the mornings when I keep myself on schedule and go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.
  • Don’t be too hard on yourself. This is the last and one of the most important tips. We all strive to look and act perfect, but we never will be and that is okay! One of the most important things is to stop comparing yourself with others. You are the only you there is, so don’t try to be like someone else. Too often we look at other people and envy their bodies. It’s okay to use other people as motivation, but being envious and feeling down about yourself is only going to make your journey to get fit that much harder. We all have different bodies and lifestyles so everyone’s definition of fit and healthy will be different. Do what works for you and makes you feel good inside and out. And most of all, be happy and enjoy life. Laughing is the best medicine,

  • Thank you for the tips! I know i sure need to drink more water!

    • Alicia

No problem! I hope they were useful. So many people are dehydrated and do not even realize it. Drinking water can cure so many problems we may be dealing with. I know that keeping a water bottle on me at all times ensures that I drink enough.

  • I totally agree with the breakfast!

    • Alicia

Yes! People tend to forget to eat breakfast too often.

  • Telling people not to be hard on themselves has become my go-to tip for life. It really does change how you see yourself and how you react when you have a bad day, don’t make it to the gym or when you end up eating pizza for breakfast! Thanks for the great advice!

  • Awesome tips! Love the Godly perspective and the reminder to strive to be healthy and not as skinny as possible!

    • Thank you Katelyn! I think it’s so important for women to not feel pressure to be skinny and just to focus on being happy and healthy 🙂
